Admitting & PBS Department Take
Customer Service to New Heights
At one point or another, every department at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center comes in contact with the public. With that contact comes the opportunity to present a positive image to our community. The Access Department is most often responsible for providing patients and visitors with their first impressions of our hospital. "We work very hard on our guest relations," says Admitting Manager Anabel Bevan. "Patients and families coming into our hospital are often in a stressful situation. Our job is to ease their concerns in a caring and efficient manner." In an average day, the Access Department handles a variety of requests from many persons including physicians, nurses and patients. Nursing House Supervisors call to notify Admissions of Physician calls to schedule patients for admission. The Access Department staff must also be familiar with the procedures and guidelines of various insurance companies. During the access process, patients sometimes are feeling apprehensive and need support. When people aren't feeling well we need to be fast, accurate and above all, friendly. "If we don't do our job right, the problems cause a domino effect throughout the hospital. Our main priority is to balance efficiency with large doses of caring and concern," said Bevan. Last year Casa Grande Regional Medical Center admitted 9,283, with an average length of stay of four days. There were 37,262 emergency room visits and 29,593 outpatient hospital visits.
In 1999, The National Association of Healthcare Access Management established a program to certify front-line staff professionals in Access Services. This is the only nationally recognized certification of its kind to designate those who demonstrate knowledge essential to the field of Access Services for the front line staff professional. Today CGRMC has six Certified Healthcare Access Associates (CHAA).
