CGRMC Partners with Cerner to Implement Electronic Medical Record
CGRMC is teaming up with Cerner to bring the latest in healthcare communication technology to the Casa Grande Valley and implement an electronic medical record. The $10 million project is well underway and will take one year to design, test and implement. The go-live date is projected to be March 27, 2007. “It [go live] will fall on a Tuesday,” joked Rona Curphy, CNO, at directors’ meeting adding that they just didn’t think adding to Monday stress would be a good idea. The new system will change the current, paper medical record to an electronic one. Jennifer Shaughnessy and Joseph Lunsky are Cerner representatives spearheading the project. They gave an informative presentation about the software and the new capabilities CGRMC will have at project’s end. Among the benefits of converting to an electronic medical record are:
• Allow access to patient chart by multiple users simultaneously
• Make historical information easily available
• Eliminate legibility problems
• Provide easy and immediate access to physician’s lists
• Enhance communication across disciplines
• Eliminate duplicate charting
• Facilitate electronic documentation at the bedside
• Allow physician order entry
Rona also remarked on how the hospital’s commitment to seeing this project through is evidenced by the fact that several CGRMC employees have been recruited to form a team of leaders dedicated solely to this project. Following is a list of project team members who will be point people in making this project a reality for CGRMC: Diann Dunker, Dr. Human, Pat Kardos, Betty Keeton, Tina Kissinger, Jennifer Lehman, Debbie Lue, Mary McHargue, Danna Nall, Karen Tardiff, Aaron Voss, Kellie Zeno, Leslie Garvin and Randy Ferguson. The Information Systems Department will also be assisting with the technical aspects of the project. As the project continues to develop, CGRMC staff will be encouraged become involved by making suggestions on how to streamline and implement processes to make rendering healthcare at CGRMC more efficient.
