"Reflecting Your True Image"

X-Ray (Diagnostic Radiology)

What Is It?

A diagnostic radiology procedure uses small amounts of X-Rays to create a "picture" of almost any part of your body. The X-Ray exam can be of bones or of internal structures such as your kidneys or stomach. At Desert Reflections, all X-Ray exams are done with the latest digital equipment. This reduces the amount of radiation necessary for the exam when compared to conventional X-Ray exams, as well as eliminating nearly all repeat films. These digital images are then stored electronically in our Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) where they are always available, 24 hours a day, for review by your physician.

Why Would Your Doctor Order This Test?

An X-Ray exam could be done to look for fracture or misalignment of bones, check the healing process, or diagnose illness or disease. With our modern and sophisticated equipment, X-Ray exams are fast and painless. The results are usually made available to your physician within one hour of the test.

How Is The Test Done?

You may be required to change into a gown for your exam. The X-Rays may be done with you standing, sitting, or lying down. For some procedures, such as stomach exams, the technologist may give you a barium solution to drink. X-Ray exams are not usually performed on women who are or may be pregnant. The technologist will ask all women between the ages of 15 and 45 whether they may be pregnant.

Exam Prep & Scheduling

Most tests do not require any prep or scheduling. Stomach exams, also known as upper GIs, are done by appointment and require the patient to have nothing by mouth after midnight the day before the exam. Kidney exams (IVPs) require a special prep usually begun 24 hours before the test. This prep will be explained to you at the time the exam is scheduled. For scheduled exams please call (520) 381-6700. X-Ray procedures are performed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
