Foundation House II Yields $200K for Emergency Expansion
CGRMC staff, foundation board members and a multitude of local business representatives celebrated the recent sale of the Foundation House II on Friday, March 24, 2006 at Casa Grande Lakes. About 50 attendees attended the picnic-style event which was catered by CGRMC’s Dietary Department. Guests which ranged from subcontractors to board members, CGRMC staff and neighbors. Morris Mennenga of Discovery Companies, LLC presented a check for $200,000 to David Fitzgibbons III, chairman of the CGRMC Foundation board. He also presented recognition awards to the many individuals and companies who collaborated to make the fundraiser such a success.
Throughout the lunch, guests were invited to tour the house and a few even tried their luck on the customized putting green in the backyard. Fundraiser proceeds are to benefit the ongoing campaign for the expansion of the CGRMC Emergency Department.
The first Foundation House Project netted the foundation about $100,000 which was used to purchase capital equipment for the hospital. The yield almost doubled with the second project largely in part because of greater participation from community businesses with donations of supplies and labor. The increased value in the housing market as well as the location of the second house were significant factors as well. “I don’t think it ever got on the market,” said Glenn Tappan, foundation executive director remarking on how quickly the house sold.
The house was purchased by TJ McCoog of The Yard Man, a local landscaping business. TJ was involved in landscaping the house and was literally sold on it. He purchased the house with plans on occupying it himself. With all the success of the past two foundation house projects, questions about a third are prolific. Community businesses have been very supportive indeed, however, the most dire issue is finding a single lot on which to build
a house. With the real estate market red hot in the Casa Grande Valley, it is difficult to find such gems.
“Thanks to all who gave of their time, talent, and energy to make this project a success,” said Glenn Tappan. “This community is unique in its endeavors to enrich the lives of its fellow neighbors and we appreciate that.”
