CGRMC Hosts Kids Event 2006
Approximately 120 children and their parents participated in Casa Grande Regional Medical Center’s (CGRMC) Kids Fun Event and Health Fair on Tuesday, May 2 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Children visited various stations to promote health including the importance of hand washing to eliminate germs with the microbiology/laboratory department, measurement of their body mass index by CGRMC’s Urgent Care, and the sugar content of various snack foods with the dietary department. Children also had the opportunity to make “ants on a log” with celery, peanut butter and raisins for a snack. Physical therapy tested children’s grip strength, did peg tests and distributed information on the safest way to carry backpacks, while Medical Imaging and Desert Reflections showed the children a variety of bone studies from both animals and people.
The kids also visited with the emergency department in order to familiarize children with procedures that might be done in an emergency. Families were taken on tours of the pediatric unit and peeked in the newborn nursery. They also saw an Air Evac helicopter, Southwest Ambulance’s Kidzulance, and a Casa Grande Fire Department truck accompanied by fire fighters and Safety Sarah. Students from CAVIT volunteered in craft booths featuring healthy living, as well as made popcorn and distributed goody bags from the hospital. Desert Pavilion’s Activities Department loaned the hospital its popcorn maker for the enjoyment of the kids. This event was held as part of CGRMC’s annual Hospital Week recognition. A big thank you to all the departments and employees who helped to make this event a big success.
