Record Breaking Numbers Attend Visit with Santa

Approximately 750 of these visitors were children who received a CGRMC gift bag with special treats and a holiday present including a holiday a photo with Santa.

Santa arrived promptly at 9 a.m. via the AirEvac helicopter as is his tradition. Attendees, however, began arriving much sooner, some even as early as 7:30 a.m. while preparations for Santa’s visit were still ongoing.

CGRMC volunteers signed up to be Santa’s helpers and put gift bags together, set up a Christmas tree along with inflatable snowmen and holiday saguaros. Holiday music soon followed and had Santa’s helpers moving along to the rhythm of the Beach Boys, George Strait, Bing Crosby and many others.

The weather was pleasant and although it wasn’t too cold, hot chocolate and donuts were available to treat visitors. Before too long, however, the temperature climbed to about eighty degrees making it necessary for volunteers to hand out bottled water.

Volunteer students from the Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology (CAVIT) were on hand to provide activities for the attending children. Activities such as face painting and reindeer puppets, among many others, were popular with attendees.

By approximately 1 p.m., the last of attendees gave Santa their wish list. Although a bit tired and in need of milk and cookies, Santa toured the hospital after the event visiting with patients and reminding them to be good, especially with Christmas being right around the corner.
